Ivy brown leaf tips

Is there a way to prevent ivy leaves from getting brown tips?

My plant was never placed in direct sunlight
I am careful not to overwater or underwater the plant 
I am also misting the leaves on regular basis 

What I am doing wrong?

I was once told that if the tip of the leaf touches something constantly, i.e it is in the hallway and people brush it wt their clothes as they are walking, it causes the tips to turn brown.
